Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani has requested union home minister Amit Shah for the service of three renowned doctors at Civil Hospital for a day. In a letter to Shah, Rupani has appealed that AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, Rajesh Chawla of Apollo Delhi and Mumbai’s pulmonologist Rohit Pandit be sent to Civil Hospital for a day to provide guidance to local doctors battling the Covid19 pandemic.
A release from the government said that the three experts will guide the local teams of doctors and paramedics in their fight against coronavirus and will also show how to strengthen the system. It will also be a morale booster for the local doctors, said the release.
The Gujarat government has been under criticism for the handling of the Covid19 spread in the state with the Centre reportedly pulling up the state over its poor response. A slew of new appointments to oversee the coordination of corona response in the state is being seen as an effort to sideline various officers who did a shoddy job of handling the crisis.
The CM also held a review meeting of the 1200-bed Covid hospital made operational at the Civil Hospital campus in the city. The meeting was attended by chief secretary Anil Mukim, deputy chief minister Nitin Patel and CM’s chief principal secretary K Kailashnathan.
