CM Mamata slams BJP over Bengal violence, says – effort to malign religion in the name of religion

Home ministry has sought a detailed report over communal violence on Ram Navami and thereafter
from West Bengal Government. On other side CM Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on BJP led Government at the Centre. Mamata accused the BJP of hiring ‘goondas’ from outside for violence. On arriving at Purba Medinipur Mamata Banerjee distributed public welfare services to the people. Later on, in her address Mamata slammed Union Government over violent incidents.

CM Mamata said,” BJP people joined Ram Navami procession with bulldozers, tractors and guns in Howrah to defame the name of Ram. They had no permission from police department. They burnt fruit and vegetable shops and houses forcefully. When the peace prevailed in Howrah nest day, these (BJP) people went to Rishra. They are defaming religion in the name of religion. She asked,” Have you forgotten the incidents of Nandi gram, Khejuri, Kolaghat, Tamluk? Today CPM talks in a big way, BJP has chosen this path after learning it from CPM only.

Mamata said that they (BJP) are defaming Hindu religion by pitting one community against another. “BJP is maligning the name of Lord Ram by organizing violence during Ram Navami,” WB CM Mamata Banerjee said.

Mamata added,” I have to be alert all the time lest BJP incites riots. They don’t understand that the people of Bengal don’t like violence. Rioting is not Bengal’s culture. We don’t riot, the general public does not incite riots. When BJP cannot do it on its own, it hires people to fan riots.” Mamata said, “The youth in whose hands weapons were seen during Ram Navami, CPI(M) used to do the same. Did you forget the atrocities of CPI(M)?.”

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, talking to media yesterday over violence on Ram Navami, said,” We will take stern and effective action to protect peace of people of Bengal shortly. We will never allow miscreants, offenders and goons to take law in their hand.”
