The death of a businessman in Bapunagar has shown the lackadaisical attitude of officials at the Civil Hospital in the city as far as Covid19 patients are concerned. A day after the businessman Indravadanbhai Rami, 57, died of the disease and the hospital issued a death certificate, the hospital authorities called his son the next day informing him that his father was Covid19 positive and they wanted to know his whereabouts.
Interestingly, the senior citizen was cremated in the presence of Civil Hospital authorities. Ravi Rami, son of Indravadan, said that his father who suffered from paralysis had some breathing trouble. “He was taken to the private hospital where they refused to treat him and so he was shifted to Civil Hospital where I myself had to carry my father to the ICU,” said Ravi.
“The authorities said that he had Covid19 and he died during treatment. His death certificate does not mention the cause of his death and he was cremated in the presence of the hospital authorities,” said Ravi. He said the next day the hospital called him asking him where his father was as he was covid positive.
Ravi has also alleged that his family of 9 has been put under quarantine but they haven’t been offered testing facilities due to shortage of testing kits. “Our family also includes young children who are most susceptible but the authorities are not carrying out the test,” said Ravi.
Over 66,000 people are in various quarantine facilities in the state since the outbreak began. So far over 1 lakh people have been tested for the disease in the state.
