In yet another goof-up of the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital administration, the family of a deceased man was informed that he was alive just hours after they had performed his cremation.

As per the case details, Devrambhai Bhisikar was admitted to the COVID-19 isolation ward of the hospital on May 28 with complaints of fever, cough, and breathlessness, which are all symptoms of coronavirus.

Even before his test results for COVID-19 could arrive, Bhisikar died the next day. Since he was a suspected case, the hospital administration wrapped the body in PPE and handed it over to the family. The body was cremated at Vadaj crematorium as per protocol amid the presence of two of the family members on May 29.

One of his family members said the body was wrapped in PPE and due to the fear of contracting an infection, the cover of the body was not opened to check Bhisikar’s face.

However, they received multiple calls from the hospital on May 30 informing that the coronavirus report of Bhisikar has come negative and he could be shifted to the general ward. This left the family in a state of shock.

When the family reached the hospital, they were informed that it was a mistake of the control room person who informed them after seeing the negative COVID-19 test report without checking the status of the patient.
