Civic body polls: Gujarat sees 62.5% voter turnout in second phase


The voter turnout in the second phase of civic body polls in the state stood at 62.5% as per a release at 8 pm. The final figures will be released late at night. Overall, 64.34% of male voters and 60.55% of female voters voted in the second phase of the elections.

In the second phase of local body polls in Gujarat, 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka panchayats went to polls on Sunday. The counting of votes will be held on March 2.

Ahmedabad district recorded 67.6% polling much higher than the municipal corporation elections. 70.54% of eligible male voters and 64.4% of eligible female voters exercised their franchise. Sanand recorded the highest voter turnout in the Ahmedabad district with 76.52% voting followed by Balva that saw 70.75% voting.

Among the four districts of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot the voting percentage was highest in Ahmedabad. Surat saw a voting percentage of 65.68% while it was 58.91% for Rajkot and 64.43% for Vadodara.

The highest voting percentage is reported from the tribal districts with Dangs recording the highest at 71.84 followed by Tapi at 71.68% and Narmada at 70.95%.

The lowest voting was recorded in Amreli at 52.38%.
