City gets 2 inches of rainfall in early morning, waterlogging reported from several areas

Heavy rains and strong winds accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the city in the early hours of Sunday morning. This resulted in waterlogging in several areas of the city. In the last 24 hours, Ahmedabad city received 52mm of rainfall which was the third highest in the state after Dahegam in Gandhinagar and Talod in Sabarkantha. The two talukas received 71mm and 63mm respectively.

The eastern part of the city covering Memco, Naroda, Dudheshwar, Shahibaugh, Sardarnagar and Kotarpur received over 2 inches of rainfall. Thanks to the heavy rains, two gates of the Vasna barrage had to be opened upto 2 feet to let the water out. Cave-ins and trees being uprooted were reported from different areas of the city. In all, ten incidents of trees being uprooted were reported.

A wall collapse was reported near the Mithakhali underbridge and it had to be closed for sometime. Waterlogging was reported from several low lying areas of Hatkeshwar, Maninagar, Ramol, Jashodanagar and others. In all, 75 talukas in the state received rains. In Ahmedabad district, the second highest rainfall was recorded in Detroj that got 35 mm followed by Sanand that got 22 mm of rainfall.
