- Chopper was making sorties around Ranjit Sagar dam in Kathua district when mishap occurred
Jammu: A helicopter belonging to the Indian Army crashed at Ranjit Sagar Dam in Kathua district of Jammu division on Tuesday. It was making a sortie over the dam where it crashed.
Both the pilots in the chopper were safe, according to Army sources.
The sources added that the Army Aviation ALH Dhruv helicopter with integrated weapon system, had taken off from Pathankot in Punjab. The accident happened during a routine sortie, they added.
The helicopter of the 254 Army Aviation Squadron took off from Mamun Cantonment at 10.20 am on Tuesday. According to reports, it was making low-level sorties around the Ranjit Sagar Dam when it crashed.
A team from NDRF has been rushed to the spot to carry out search rescue operations.
