China: Aircraft carrying 132 people crashes in Gaungxi

Beijing: A China Eastern aircraft with 132 persons, including 9 crew members, crashed in the mountains in Guangxi province on Monday. Rescue operations are currently underway.

According to reports, the MU5735 flight, a Boeing 737 aircraft, from Kunming to Guangzhou crashed in Gaungxi where it resulted in a fire on the mountainside.

The plane is said to have dropped from an altitude of 29,100 feet to 3,225 feet within just three minutes.

It went off the radar at 2.22 pm local time.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has confirmed the flight crash, adding that emergency response has been activated and a team has been sent to the spot.

So far, there is no news of the number of casualties or if there are any survivors.
