Mumbai Crime branch files charge sheet against Param Bir Singh, 3 others in extortion case

Mumbai: The Crime Branch of Mumbai police filed a 400-page charge sheet against former police commissioner of the city Param Bir Singh, Sachin Waze and two others in a case of alleged extortion against them.

Singh had recorded his statement in the case last week.

The charge sheet was filed before chief metropolitan magistrate SB Bhajipale.

The extortion case was filed by hotelier Bimal Agarwal in Goregaon.

As per the allegation by Agarwal, the accused had extorted Rs 9 lakh for not carrying out raids at bars and restaurants where he was a partner. They also allegedly forced him to buy two smartphones worth Rs 2.92 lakh for them.

 

Param Bir Singh was suspended 2 days ago

The former top cop of Mumbai had been suspended by the Maharashtra government just two days ago for “irregularities and lapses”. The suspension order was signed by Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. As per reports, the state government had accepted the report by a committee that had found Param Bir Singh guity of dereliction of duty in the Antilia bomb scare case. He was also accused of protecting Sachin Waze.
