CBSE announces board exam schedule for class 10, 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday released the datesheet for class 10 and 12 board exams that will start from May 4. The announcement in this regard was made by Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Twitter. Notably, the minister had earlier announced that CBSE will declare the exam schedule for class 10 and 12 board examinations on February 2.

The class 10 exams will start on May 4 and end on June 7, whereas the class 12 exams will conclude on June 11. Practical exams will begin on March 1. The senior secondary exams will be held in two shifts—from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. However, class 10 exams will be held in only one shift from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm.

All exams will be held in the offline-written mode, and with strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place. These include wearing face masks at all times and the use of hand sanitisers.

Results will be announced by July 15.

The first exam for Class 10 students will be languages—Kannada, Odia and Lepcha. Class 12 exams will begin with English (both Elective and Core) at 10.30 am.

A third of each paper (33 per cent) will contain internal choice questions, and the syllabus of each subject has been reduced by 30 per cent to ease the burden on lakhs of students across the country who have seen classroom time cut drastically due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Classroom teaching resumes

Pokhriyal has so far held several question-answer sessions with students and teachers to respond to their queries related to the board exams. Notably, schools across the country had to be abruptly closed in March last year when the country went into lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

With the easing of the situation, several schools have opened up and are conducting regular classroom teaching for senior classes.
