CBI tells court probe in Sheena Bora murder case is over

The probe in the infamous Sheena Bora murder case is over, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reportedly told the special court adjudicating the case. Notably, the victim’s mother Indrani Mukherjea, a former media executive, is facing trial in the case.

The central probe agency has already filed three charge sheets and two supplementary charge sheets accusing Indrani Mukherjea who is facing a trial in the 2012 murder case that came to the fore in 2015. Intimation regarding the closure of further investigation was filed by the CBI before special judge AS Sayyad.

Around 60 witnesses have recorded their statements in the trial after the trial in the case started in 2017. While Peter Mukerjea was granted bail just weeks before the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown was imposed in 2020, Indrani and Sanjeev are still in jail.

With the investigation coming to a close, it is believed that it could get easier for Khanna and Indrani to get bail now. Meanwhile, Indrani has also changed her legal team who had been taking care of her case.

The case CBI

Sheena Bora was murdered in April 2012 allegedly by Indrani Mukerjea, Rai and Indrani’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna. The case was first detected by Mumbai police in 2015, when Rai was arrested with an illegal pistol.

In the course of questioning, he blew up the lip covering the killing of Sheena Bora. He opened up about Indrani and her former media baron husband, Peter Mukerjea. This led to the arrest of Indrani by the Mumbai police. Her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, a businessman from Kolkata, was also arrested along with Rai.

The case was later handed over to the CBI. The agency arrested Peter Mukerjea in 2015. Sheena Bora was murdered by Indrani, Rai and Khanna over a financial dispute, according to the prosecution.
