A labourer was killed in the Juna Vadaj area of Ahmedabad after a mud cave-in at a construction site.
The incident was reported at the site of AMC’s water project where digging work was going on at the Ramapir No Tekro.
The cave-in during the digging work buried the labourer under 10 ft of mud. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and rescued the labourer who was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he died. The labourer was identified as Ravalbhai Navalsinh, 40 who was a labourer with contractor Dhruval Malani.
Other labour deaths
Four labourers died while cleaning a chemical tank of a private company Chiripal Group in Dholka on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in July this year.
The labourers are believed to have been suffocated to death after leakage of poisonous gas in the tank of Chiripal Industries.
Earlier in February, seven workers had died in a fire at a denim factory in Narol road of Nandan Denim, which also belongs to the same group.
A fire incident at Sahil Enterprise in Pirana-Pipdaj road towards the end of the year in a a textile unit ended up killing 12 workers.
In the last four weeks of November, eight incidents of industrial accidents were reported which killed over 24 workers.
An under-construction four-storey building in Bavamanpura near Panigate in Vadodara collapsed in September burying seven people in the rubble and killing three.
In the same month, three labourers were killed after a part of a dilapidated building- Niranjana Apartment- in Rander area of Surat collapsed.
The part of the 35-year-old apartment had collapsed in the early morning, injuring the labourers who were sleeping under it.
