New Delhi: Violence against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Seelampur-Jafrabad area of Delhi on Tuesday came as big news. Delhi Police has applied Section 144 in Northeast district following the violence in Seelampur. As many as six people have been arrested and three cases registered in connection with Tuesday’s arson and violence during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 in Delhi’s northeast area of Seelampur.
On Tuesday, a total of 34 people, including 12 policemen and a few children, were injured in violence that erupted during a protest in Seelampur. The police also claimed that three personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were injured. A cop was thrashed and his wireless set snatched.
Delhi Police has registered 2 FIRs on Jafrabad violence. In which the police have been accused of committing violence and damaging government property. Reportedly, there were violent clashes between police and demonstrators during a protest against citizenship Act on Tuesday afternoon.
Delhi Police in a statement said that the protest was scheduled in Jafrabad, North East Delhi at 2 pm. People gathered around 1:15 pm and marched towards Seelampur. Initially, the protest was peaceful but suddenly violence emerged while they were dispersing.The Delhi Police used batons and fired tear gas shells as some 2,000 protesters threw stones and set fire to vehicles.
