CAA Protest:7 Killed, Over 100 Injured In Delhi Violence

The death toll in the ongoing violence in northeast Delhi has increased to seven and 100 injured. Protesters for and against the controversial citizenship Act threw stones, set vehicles and shops ablaze and transformed parts of the national capital into a war zone, forcing the deployment of paramilitary forces and the banning of large gatherings in affected areas. The stone pelting incident came to light on Tuesday morning in Maujpur and Brahmapuri regarding the CAA. Some people set fire to the tire market in Gokulpuri. All schools have been kept closed due to violent incidents. Delhi Metro has also decided to keep the metropolitan stations closed.

The conflict between the two parties over the Citizenship Amendment Act has once again disturbed Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to restore law and order in the wake of violence in parts of northeast Delhi during protests for and against the new citizenship law.

“Very distressing news regarding disturbance of peace and harmony in parts of Delhi coming in. I sincerely urge Hon’ble LG and Hon’ble Union Home Minister to restore law and order and ensure that peace and harmony is maintained. Nobody should be allowed to orchestrate flagrations,” Kejriwal tweeted.
