CAA Protest: Mobile Internet Suspended in 14 UP Districts


11 people died after the violent protest took place in Uttar Pradesh on Citizenship Amendment Act. The protest against the controversial Act led to the major violence in area like protesters had died in Kanpur, Firozabad and Bijnor. Internet is currently closed in 11 districts in UP.

At the same time, more than 100 arrests and cases have been registered against thousands of people in the case of violence. A case has been registered against 3600 people in Ghaziabad alone. Internet and text messaging services have been suspended in Bijnor, Meerut, Firozabad, Kanpur, Sambhal, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Shamli, Ghaziabad, Bareilly including Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.

As many as 3,505 people have been kept under preventive custody, according to authorities. Out of these, 200 are under preventive custody in Lucknow.

On Friday, 4 people involved in the violence in Meerut were killed and 3 policemen were also injured. According to the SSP, violence was carried out under the conspiracy. Those who committed violence were also firing on the police. More than 50 rounds of firing were done from the crowd. 13 FIRs have been registered and action will be taken against the accused under NSA.
