Congress turncoat and BJP’s candidate from Karjan seat Akshay Patel had a bitter experience while he was campaigning for the upcoming bypolls in the state.
Akshay Patel had left the Congress ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state. He had later joined the BJP and given a ticket from the party for the Karjan seat, where he was the former MLA.
Some voters pointedly asked Akshay Patel about the efforts he had made for the voters when he won a mandate last time.
What voters asked Akshay Patel
Several voters of Navi Jithardi village approached Akshay Patel and questioned him about his disappearance once he had won the elections last time. “How many times did you bother to visit us once you won the seat last time,” they questioned.
Patel who realized the depth of anger in his voters chose to remain silent. Reports said that instead of replying to the questions raised by voters, Patel and his supporters chose to move out of the village.
Bypolls in Gujarat
It should be noted that the bypolls on eight seats were necessitated after Congress MLAs resigned from the party ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
The eight vacant assembly constituencies are Abdasa, Limdi, Karjan, Dangs, Kaprada, Morbi, Gadhda and Dhari which will go to polls on November 3.
Initially, four MLAs of the Congress resigned in the run-up to the Rajya Sabha polls but by the time the polls were held, four more had resigned.
This had helped three candidates of the BJP win the Rajya Sabha polls while only one of the Congress sailed through.
Originally as per the strength, Congress was poised to win two seats but the resignation of its eight MLAs spoiled Congress’ game plan.
