Fourteen of the 80 candidates contesting the eight seats which will see bypolls on November 3 have criminal cases against them. Of this, seven have serious charges registered against them.
Three of the eight candidates of BJP have criminal cases against them while 2 from Congress have similar antecedents.
One of the two candidates propped up by Bhartiya Tribal Party (BTP) and eight independents have such charges against them.
As per data released by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) Jitu Chaudhary, Pradhyumansinh Jadeja and Vijay Patel from the BJP and Suresh Kotadiya and Kritisinh Jadeja from Congress have criminal cases against them.
BJP’s Kaprada candidate Jitu Chaudhary and Abdasa candidate Pradyumansinh Jadeja have serious charges registered against them.
Dangs BJP candidate Vijay Patel and Congress’ Karjan candidate Kiritsinh Jadeja and Dhari candidate Suresh Patel also have cases registered against them.
Net assets of candidates contesting bypolls
Four candidates each from the BJP and Congress have studied up to or below Class 12. Seven candidates have net assets worth over Rs5 crore while six candidates have assets in the range of Rs2 crore to Rs5 crore.
15 candidates have assets worth Rs50 lakh to Rs2 crore while 19 candidates have it in the range Rs10 lakh to Rs50 lakh.
33 candidates have assets below Rs10 lakh in value. All of BJP’s eight candidates have assets worth over Rs1 crore while six Congress candidates and Independents each have assets in the same range.
The richest candidate is Congress’ Morbi candidate Jayanti Patel who has Rs10 crore of assets while Mohan Solanki, Gadhada candidate of Congress has assets worth Rs8.60 cr.
