A businessman wanted in over 45 cases was arrested by the Indore crime branch officials from Gujarat on Sunday. The crime branch team was on the lookout for Jitu Soni for almost seven months. Soni was carrying a reward of Rs 1.6 lakh.
Jitu Soni was wanted in several cases like human trafficking, fraud, abduction, rape and extortion. He had escaped from Indore in Madhya Pradesh after police launched a crackdown.
Jitu’s brother Mahendra Soni was arrested by the crime branch officials in Amreli three days back from a safehouse. However, Jitu, his son Vicky, and nephew Jignesh, managed to flee from the safehouse located 16 km from Rajkot. The trio escaped from the safehouse just three hours before the raid was conducted, said DIG Harinarayanchari Mishra.
During the interrogation, Mahendra revealed details about the whereabouts of his brother which helped the investigating agency in nabbing Jitu, Mishra added.
Notably, over 12 teams of the crime branch were camping in Gujarat for the past week to track down the businessman and a reward of Rs 1.6 lakh was announced for information about him.
The police had earlier raided Soni’s premises, including a dance bar. Over 60 women, including minors, were rescued in the raid.
