‘Bulli Bai’ app case: Mumbai cops arrest 21-year-old Bengaluru student

Bengaluru: A 21-year-old engineering student in Bengaluru who had been detained for his alleged role in the controversial ‘Bulli Bai’ app was formally arrested on Tuesday by the cyber cell of Mumbai police.

He has been identified as Vishal Kumar. He was produced in Bandra court on Tuesday.

A 21-year-old woman detained from Uttarakhand is believed to be the main accused. Both of them  are understood to be known to each other and are friends on Facebook and Instagram.

According to police, the woman was handling three accounts related to the Bulli Bai app.

The controversial Bulli Bai app was first noticed on January 1 when it “auctioned” Muslim women and misused their photographs collected from social media without their consent.

Prominent female journalists, activists and others were on the list of the “auctioned” women on the app hosted by GitHub which has last year hosted a similar app called ‘Sulli Deals’.

The Mumbai police had registered an FIR in the matter. The Delhi Minorities Commission has sought an action taken report from police chief Rakesh Asthaana by January 10.
