BSP Chief Mayawati Suspends MLA Ramabai Parihar for Supporting CAA

On the ongoing protest against the CAA and NRC the BSP Chief Mayawati on Sunday suspended the party MLA from Patheriya Assembly seat, Madhya Pradesh Ramabai Parihar for supporting the new Citizenship Amendment Act.

BSP supremo Mayawati tweeted, “BSP is a disciplined party and if it is broken, immediate action is taken against MP / MLA etc. of the party. In the same order, BSP MLA Ramabai Parihar from Patheria in MP has suspended her from the party for supporting CAA.”

Mayawati told, ‘They have also banned from participating in the party program. While the BSP first opposed it, calling it divisive and unconstitutional, it also voted against it in Parliament and gave a memorandum to the President about its withdrawal. Nevertheless, MLA Parihar supported CAA. Even earlier, he was warned to walk on the party line several times.

This aggressive attitude of Mayawati has made it clear that she is not going to sack any leader who goes off the party line. She has made it clear by this action that by any means she compromises with CAA and NRC Act.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, became an Act of law after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to the legislation on December 13. The BSP had earlier dubbed the controversial CAA as “unconstitutional” and voted against it in Parliament. It also urged the President to withdraw the new law.
