Bride sisters in Surat opt for voting during polls before the wedding

As Gujarat votes for the second phase of civic body polls, two sisters, both of them brides who were to get married on Sunday chose to first cast their franchise before tying the knot. The two sisters Dipali and Riddhi came all decked up as brides to the voting center to cast their votes.

Similar reports had come from Botad where a groom who had to go to Amreli for his wedding came decked in finery to cast his vote.

Gujarat civic body polls

In the second phase of local body polls in Gujarat, voting is going on for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka panchayats on Sunday. Since the morning, people have been queuing outside polling stations and are exercising their franchise under the COVID-19 guidelines. The counting of votes will be held on March 2.

Till 1 pm, the state has recorded an average voter turnout of 27%. Nearly 35.44% voting has been recorded in Dang district panchayat, 26.61% voting has been reported in Gandhinagar district panchayat, 26.45% voting has been reported in Morbi district panchayat, 25.06%voting has been recorded in Gir Somnath district panchayat and 24.41% voting has been recorded in Navsari district panchayat.

A voter turnout of 30.37% was recorded in Dahod municipality till 1 pm while 46.61% took place in Jhalod municipality. Results for the second phase of civic body polls will be declared on March 2.
