Kiran Bedi, the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry has been removed from the post. The Rashtrapati Bhavan in a statement on Tuesday night said Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, will discharge the functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry until a new appointment is made.
“The President has directed that Dr. Kiran Bedi shall cease to hold the office of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry and has appointed Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, to discharge the functions of the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry, in addition to her duties, with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office until regular arrangements for the office of Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry are made,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan statement read.
Kiran Bedi’s removal comes as Puducherry prepares for Assembly polls. The Congress during its campaign had blamed Kiran Bedi for scuttling Puducherry’s development at the Centre’s behest.
It was also one of the demands made by Congress leaders who joined the BJP.
