The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) has decided to reduce the curriculum for Class 9 to 12 by 30%.
This comes as schools battle reduced working days and online teaching due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The reduction means topics that are not part of the reduced curriculum will not be part of the exams. The reduced curriculum will be in force for a year until the school year ends. Schools have welcomed the reduced curriculum.
It should be noted that due to the lockdown imposed in March, schools have lost a considerable number of teaching days this year and there have been requests to reduce the curriculum.
The Centre has already announced a reduction in CBSE curriculum this year by up to 30% for class 9 to 12. The Centre had said that the aim was to reduce exam stress on students due to COVID-19 and prevent learning gaps.
The reduction was undertaken by the board for nearly 190 subjects as a one time measure.
