A chappal was thrown at deputy chief minister Nitin Patel who had gone for campaigning in Karjan assembly seat near Vadodara on Monday.
Karjan is among the eight seats in Gujarat where bypolls will be held on November 3. Speaking about the incident, Patel said that earlier too such incidents had happened with BJP candidate JV Kakadia and a Congress corporator’s husband and a party worker were found to be behind the incident.
Nitin Patel said that anti-social elements from Congress were behind the incident. The incident happened when Nitin Patel was talking to reporters near Karjan Karoli village.
BJP media cell president Prashant Vada said that the Congress was resorting to such tactics as it was sure of its defeat in the bypolls.
BJP state president CR Patil criticised the incident stating that it was in Congress’ nature to act so low. Police are investigating the matter.
