BJP state president CR Patil has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been moved to Apollo Hospital for treatment. It should be noted that CR Patil has been addressing rallies and meeting party workers in Saurashtra and North Gujarat.
In several such meetings, media reports had pointed to a lack of social distancing and whether it was appropriate to hold such meets. Earlier a welcome rally in Surat also saw a surge in crowd resulting in Patil having to cancel the event.
There too social distancing had gone for a toss. Interestingly, several other leaders and party workers who attended the rallies of Patil have also tested positive.
7 others in BJP office test positive
In addition to Patil, BJP spokesperson Bharat Panday, BJP office secretary Paresh Patel, Mahila Morcha secretary Monaben Raval and Ahmedabad East MP Hasmukh Patel have also tested positive due to the disease.
Apart from the above-mentioned leaders, telephone operator at the BJP office in Gandhinagar Rakesh Pandya and two sanitation workers and a driver have also tested positive. In all seven people at the office have tested positive for the disease.
There is a fear that more people would have been infected as BJP workers from across the state visit the office. Every Monday and Tuesday Party leaders meet workers to address their problems.
Since ministers were meeting with party workers there was a surge in party workers coming to the BJP office to get their grievances addressed.
BJP spokesperson Bharat Panday who tested positive has been admitted to the UN Mehta Hospital. He had also accompanied Patil during his tour of North Gujarat.
Apart from Ahmedabad (East) MP Hasmukh Patel, his wife has also tested positive. He had on Monday participated in the Vijay Rath Prasthan programme of the party. In Ahmedabad alone, over 12 corporators and 2 MLAs have tested positive so far.
