As Gujarat gets ready for bypolls in eight assembly seats and names of possible candidates do the rounds, 250 BJP workers from Chharanagar have joined the Congress.
The workers joined the Grand Old Party in the presence of Shashikant Patel and Dinesh Sharma. At a time when the BJP is in power both in the state and Centre, BJP workers joining the opposition party has raised many eyebrows.
Workers disappointed with BJP leaders
The workers in Kubernagar said they have been with the Saffron party for over 20 years now and have consistently voted for the BJP but so far not much development has reached them.
They alleged that BJP leaders are not even willing to listen to their problems. They said in the year 2018 police entered the homes and beat them and the local BJP leaders treat them like dirt. It is why they decided to join the opposition.
BJP corporator in Rajkot also joined Congress in Sept
Earlier on September 3, a BJP corporator and several other local leaders associated with the BJP joined the Congress in the presence of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel in Rajkot.
Dakshanben Bhesania, Rajkot Ward No 5, corporator joined the Grand Old Party in the presence of Hardik Patel. Interestingly, the shift of some BJP corporators and workers to Congress came at a time when BJP state president CR Patil visited Saurashtra and met party workers and leaders.
Apart from the corporator, Saurashtra Marketing Yard traders association president Atul Kamani also joined the Congress. Well-known social worker Chandni Limbasiya also followed the other two in joining Congress.
20 other youth BJP leaders from ABVP also became members of the opposition party.
