Ahmedabad: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson began his two-day visit to India on Thursday morning. He landed at Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat, where he was welcomed by Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and others.
His first stop was at Sabarmati Ashram. Later, he will meet industry leaders including Adani, visit Gujarat Biotechnology University in Gandhinagar and inaugurate a factory near Vadodara.
Following that, he will leave for Ahmedabad and then to Delhi in the evening. He will meet PM Narendra Modi on Friday.
Boris Johnson is in the country to give a push to the bilateral trade agreement between India and the UK. The free trade agreement will give companies in both countries free access to the other’s market.
While the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war will find a mention, UK has said it will not “lecture: India on its neutral stance.
