Dissent in Bommai’s Cabinet: Sulking MLA Anand Singh shuts office

Bengaluru: All is not well in the revamped Cabinet of newly appointed Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. One of the MLAs, Anand Singh, has shut down his office reportedly because of displeasure over not getting the portfolio of his choice.

Bommai had announced his new Cabinet earlier this month. A total of 29 ministers had taken oath in the Cabinet. Anand Singh was given the portfolio of tourism, ecology and environment. He reportedly wanted the portfolio of forest, which he had in the Yediyurappa government. Besides this, he also wanted energy.

Sources said that an unhappy Singh has closed his office in Hospet in Vijaynagar district. He has also kept his resignation ready.

Anand Singh is not the only unhappy minister in the Bommai Cabinet. MTB Nagaraj, who has been alloted municipal administration, small-scale and public sector industries portfolios, is said to be sulking because he wanted housing.

However, Nagaraj said on Wednesday that he had been promised by Bommai that his portfolio would be changed.

Both these ministers were earlier with Congress.

Murmurs of displeasure had started right after the portfolio allocation.

Bommai said on Wednesday that he would talk to Anand Singh. He expressed confidence that the issues would be resolved soon.
