A virtual fundraiser concert by the who’s who of Bollywood to fight the Coronavirus in India was a huge success with participation from some of the biggest names in the Hindi film industry. The online concert began on Sunday evening and was the initiative of Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar to raise money for those affected by the pandemic. Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra and Shabana Azmi were among those who participated. International stars like Will Smith and rock legend Mick Jagger also were part of the live-streaming by Facebook.
Akhtar and Johar gave a brief introduction of the purpose and that the money raised through the concert will go to Give India’s COVID-19 Response Fund to help frontline workers.
Akshay Kumar had the first performance and he recited a poem Tumse Ho Nahi Paega – about achieving the impossible during the pandemic. He also urged fans to help the affected in whatever way they can. Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao, asked fans to not lose hope and sang Aa Chal Ke Tujhe and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai during the concert. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy played the tracks of Senorita and Gallan Goodiyan.
