In an incident that has sent shockwaves across the country, the bodies of nine migrant workers have been recovered from a well in Telangana’s Warangal district. Four of the nine bodies were found in a well located in the premises of a gunny bag manufacturing godown on Thursday while the rest were found on Friday.
The deceased, whose bodies were found have been identified as Mohd Maqsood, his wife Nisha and their four children. The family originally belonged to West Bengal and had moved to Telangana in search of work. Three other bodies are believed to be of migrants from Bihar. Local media said that the manufacturing unit’s owner had found the workers and their families missing and later found the bodies in the well. The police suspect the labourers might have killed themselves over financial stress.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has been appealing migrants not to walk back to their home from Telangana and has promised them transportation. The state has also seen several protests by migrants who wanted to return home as they were unable to earn a living.
