The BJP on Tuesday announced the name of its candidates for the upcoming election for the two vacant Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat. Notably, the election for the two vacant Rajya Sabha seats will be held on March 1.
The two candidates selected by the saffron party are Dinesh Prajapati and Rambhai Mokariya. The BJP is confident of winning both the seats comfortably. After the announcement of the names, Mokariya said that he is happy that the party has chosen him as a candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. He said that BJP will continue to work for the development of the country and will continue to progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress yet to announce its candidates
While the BJP has announced its candidates, the Congress is yet to select its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Paresh Dhanani said the Congress leadership could not discuss the probable candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections due to the civic body elections. He said that the party will soon announce its candidates for the two vacant seats and will contest the elections democratically.
The last date for filing nominations for the vacant Rajya Sabha seats is February 18, whereas candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nomination till February 22. While the election will be held on March 1 from 9 am to 4 pm, the counting of votes will begin from 5 pm on the same day.
Rajya Sabha seats turned vacant
Two Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat turned vacant after the demise of Congress leader Ahmed Patel and BJP’s Abhay Bharadwaj. While Ahmed Patel passed away on November 25 last year, Abhay Bhardwaj died on December 1.
