BJP MLA from Vaghodia, Madhu Shrivastav’s son Dipak’s nomination as an independent candidate from ward 15 of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has been rejected by the State Election Commission.
Notably, BJP had denied a ticket to Dipak after which he decided to contest the poll as an independent candidate. Madhu Shrivastav had said that he would campaign for Dipak if he contests the poll as an independent candidate.
According to election commission guidelines, if a candidate has more than two children, his or her candidature is likely to be rejected. However, Dipak has three kids, and therefore, he cannot contest the election.
In fact, it was the saffron party that has raked up the issue of Dipak’s three children with the returning officer, who had sought time to verify the facts. BJP’s Gujarat chief CR Patil had also said that action will be taken against people who are involved in anti-party activities.
Ruckus by supporters of Dipak Shrivastav
During the hearing of the objection raised by BJP over the candidature of Dipak, the latter’s supporters resorted to violence and damaged government property.
Eventually, the police were informed, which brought the situation under control. A case has been registered for the destruction of government property and restricting a government official from discharging his duty.
BJP MLA threatens journalists
Madhu Srivastav, on Monday threatened journalists saying that they should refrain from asking him bitter questions or else he will get them beaten. Journalists had questioned the MLA about his son’s three children, which irked him. Madhu Shrivastav said, “Do not ask me tough questions, or else, I will get you beaten.” He also asserted that his son has only two children.
Notably, after the BJP denied ticket to Dipak, the father-son duo started a rebellion against the saffron party. The MLA was confident that he will ensure a ticket for his son, but the new guidelines released by the party for the selection of candidates for the local body elections have made it almost impossible for the legislator to secure a ticket for his son.
