BJP MLA Nimaben Acharya, son test positive for COVID-19

BJP MLA Nimaben Acharya has tested positive for COVID-19. The state has seen over 2,200 cases of COVID-19 in the last two days while it has recorded close to 40 deaths during the same period.

Incidentally, Dr Acharya was present during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 and interacted with several workers and others. All workers who have come in contact with Dr Acharya have been asked to go into quarantine. 

 

She had got herself tested in a private laboratory after developing minor symptoms. Sources in the know said she tested positive during a rapid antigen test. Her son Mukesh Acharya has also tested positive. 

Others who tested positive

Vatva corporator from Ahmedabad Pushpaben Mistry has also tested positive for COVID-19. She too got tested after she developed symptoms of the disease.

So far 31 corporators in the city have tested positive for COVID-19. Several other BJP leaders have tested positive for the disease. This includes Kishor Chauhan, Purnesh Modi, Balram Thavani, Jagdish Panchal, Ketan Inamdar, VD Jhalavadia and minister Raman Patkar.

CJ Chavda, Imran Khedawala, Bharatsinh Solanki, Niranjan Patel, Kanti Kharadi, Chirag Kalariya and Geniben Thakor of the Congress have also tested positive.

COVID-19 cases in Gujarat

Gujarat reported 1,120 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday taking the total number of cases to 78,783. Twenty deaths were reported in the state in the past 24 hours taking the state’s COVID-19 related death toll to 2,787.

Eight deaths were reported from Surat, four from Ahmedabad while Bhavnagar and Morbi reported two deaths each. Gir-Somnath, Kutch, Patan and Vadodara also reported one death each.
