Former BJP MP Jashwantsinh Bhabor who was part of the recently held parliamentary board meet of the BJP has tested positive for COVID. The meet was attended by chief minister Vijay Rupani who had earlier tested positive for COVID. Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel who was also part of the meeting and had closely interacted with Rupani has tested negative for the disease.
Other BJP leaders who tested COVID positive
The state BJP general secretary (organisation) Bhikhu Dalsania and Kutch MP Vinod Chavda had earlier tested positive for COVID. Their status was revealed after Rupani tested positive.
Vinod Chavda is under treatment at a private hospital in Ahmedabad while his son who has also tested positive is under home quarantine.
Earlier, the Gujarat government said that CM Rupani, who had been aggressively campaigning for the BJP in the local body polls have tested positive for COVID. The report came after he suddenly collapsed on the stage in Vadodara while addressing a rally. He was rushed to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre.
Rupani had been unwell for some time and had a mild fever but chose to continue with his official engagements. He is stable now.
Several prominent BJP leaders and many saints of the Swaminarayan Sect had also come in close contact with Rupani. The CM had after testing positive for the disease tweeted and asked all those who came in contact with him to get tested for COVID. Rupani had addressed several public rallies in the last many days due to the upcoming civic body polls in Gujarat.
Congress demands COVID-19 tests
Congress has demanded that all people who were on stage during the last three public meetings attended by Rupani should be tested for COVID. The list of people who had shared the stage with the chief minister includes MPs, MLAs, BJP office bearers, and around 44 candidates fielded by the party from 11 wards in Vadodara.
