BJP’s Ghatlodia coporator Jatin Patel whose name had gone missing from the voter’s list has been given a ticket by the party. He is a candidate from the Ghatlodia ward in the new list of candidates announced by the party for the AMC.
Sources in the know said that he had been given a hint that his name was on the candidates’ list and that is why he immediately approached the Gujarat high court to get his name reinstated in the voters’ list.
What High Court said about Ghatlodia corporator
The Gujarat High Court on Thursday directed the State Election Commission to include the name of Ghatlodia Corporator Jatin Kumar Patel in the voter list at the earliest.
The division bench of Gujarat High Court observed that it was a silly mistake on the part of the applicant which led to the trouble. The court instructed the SEC to include the name of the corporator – Jatin Kumar Patel in the voters’ list. The state had submitted that only the SEC can rectify the mistake committed by the applicant.
As per details, Jatin Patel had made an application to delete his father’s name from the voter’s list. His father had passed away and Patel made the application to get his name deleted from the voter’s list. But his name was also deleted along with that of his father.
If a candidate’s name is missing from the voter’s list the candidate is not eligible to contest the elections.
