The results for the civic body polls in Gujarat have so far seen the ruling BJP returning to power in three of the six municipal corporations that went to the polls. All the corporations where the BJP has returned to power are in the Saurashtra region. The Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar corporations have decisively gone to the Saffron Party that has also pocketed the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
The BJP bettered its previous performance in some of these civic bodies. It has particularly done well in Rajkot.
In 2015, BJP had 38 seats in the Rajkot Municipal corporation while Congress had 34. At that time, the BJP had managed to scrape through. But this time the Congress has not managed to win or take a lead in the 48 seat results for which were declared.
All 48 of 72 seats in the Rajkot civic body have gone to the BJP and the Congress and Independents are yet to open an account.
Of the 64 seats in Jamnagar, results have been declared for 44 seats of which BJP has won 36, giving it a majority. Only 5 of the declared seats have gone to Congress.
In Bhavnagar where BJP was expected to perform well, results have been declared for 36 of the 52 seats. BJP has won 31 while Congress has so far won only 5.
