BJP has denied a ticket to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s niece, Sonal Modi, for the civic body elections in Gujarat. She had sought a BJP ticket from Bodakdev ward of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The name of Sonal Modi was not included in the list of candidates released by BJP on Thursday for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Sonal Modi is the daughter of PM’s brother Prahlad Modi, who is also the president of the Gujarat Fair Price Shops Association.
Reacting to this, Sonal Modi said that though she has not been given a ticket by the BJP, she will continue to function as a party worker. “We have not used Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name for our bread and butter,” Prahlad Modi said.
BJP’s new rule
Ahead of declaring candidates for the local body elections, the BJP had announced a new guideline under which candidates above the age of 60 years will not be given the ticket to contest the election. Also, those who have already completed three tenures as a representative of the people will not be given tickets.
The new guideline of the saffron party has not gone down well with several BJP leaders, who will not be able to secure tickets for the polls scheduled later this month. Also, relatives of BJP leaders will not be provided poll tickets.
