Bipin Rawat chopper crash inquiry report likely to be submitted on December 31

New Delhi: The inquiry report on the chopper crash in Coonoor in Tamil Nadu that killed Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat and 13 others, is likely to be submitted to the government on Friday, December 31.

A tri-services team led by Air Marshal Manvendra Singh, is probing the crash on December 8 in which General Rawat, his wife and 12 others were killed. The team also includes two Brigadier-rank officers from the Army and Navy.

News agency ANI quoted government sources as saying that the inquiry report is likely to be submitted to the government on December 31. The detailed report has been prepared on the groun and from thorough analysis of data from the black box, they said.

According to sources, the mishap seemed to be sudden.

 

The crash

CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 12 others, including senior Defence officers, were on way to Defence Services Staff College in Wellington on December 8. Just a few minutes before landing, the chopper crashed in Coonoor district. Within hours, 13 of the 14 passengers were declared dead.

Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone surivor of the crash, succumbed to his injuries a week later.

Soon after the crash, IAF announced that a tri-service team would carry out an inquiry into the accident.
