A wedding ceremony in rural Patna a fortnight ago in violation of the norms for COVID-19 has resulted in 100 more people testing positive for the disease. The groom who was already running a fever on his wedding day has succumbed to the illness. Unfortunately, his family cremated his body in a hurry. The wedding that saw a large congregation of people has set off the biggest infection chain in Bihar so far.
Media reports said over 100 people have tested positive in Paliganj sub-division of Patna district. So far 350 have been tested. Earlier 15 of the groom’s relatives who tested positive ended up infecting others.
Reports said the groom who worked in Gurugram was already showing symptoms of the disease. He wanted to postpone the ritual but the family members prevailed upon him. His condition later worsened and he was shifted to AIIMS, Patna, but died on the way.
The body was cremated in a hurry but the district officials were tipped off by a local person.
The administration began a special drive to test people in the village where the marriage took place and several others tested positive. All of them are asymptomatic and have been isolated. The area has also been sealed.
