Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting held with all chief ministers on Monday said that the biggest challenge will be to prevent the spread of disease to villages in the country. The meeting, the fifth such to be held since lockdown, discussed the exit strategy for the nationwide lockdown and how to put the economy back on its feet.
“It was essential to make the best of efforts to ensure that people stay where they were during the lockdown but in times like these people would like to be at their home and hence a change in decision had to be made,” Modi told the chief ministers.
“There is global recognition for India’s success in handling the pandemic and the government appreciates the efforts made by all state governments in this regard. Let us stay the course as we move forward together,” said Modi in his video conference with the chief ministers.
Large-scale movement of migrant workers and the resultant problems as well as restarting the economy was among the focus areas during the interaction.
