- The fire broke out at Kamla Nehru Hospital in Bhopal
Bhopal: Fire broke out in the special newborn care unit (SNCU) of the Kamla Nehru Hospital in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh on Monday night, leaving at least four children dead.
As per reports, the fire began at around 9 pm on the third floor of the hospital, which also has the ICU.
As many as 40 children had been admitted to the SNCU. The children who were rescued were shifted to another ward
Medical education minister Vishwas Sarang, who had reached the spot, said that the fire probably broke out due to a short circuit. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, angry parents accused the hospital staff of fleeing instead of trying to rescue the children.
In a tweet in Hindi, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief at the Bhopal incident. He ordered high-level probe in the matter, to be conducted by ACS, health and medical education, Mohammad Suleiman.
Chouhan also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased.
