Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki on the mend, but COVID-19 takes a toll


Bharatsinh Solanki, former Gujarat Congress President is unrecognisable as he battles COVID-19. Solanki, who was on a ventilator and whose condition was deemed to be serious for some days is on the mend. 

However, media reports said the disease has ravaged the formerly healthy politician so bad that he is unrecognizable now. He continues to be under treatment at CIMS Hospital. A photo of him (above) has shocked citizens even as he continues to recover.


Bharatsinh Solanki tested positive on June 21

Solanki had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 21 after the Rajya Sabha elections on June 19. Initially, he had breathing trouble and was admitted to the Banker hospital in Vadodara for a week. 

He was later shifted to the CIMS hospital in Ahmedabad on June 28 where he continues to be under treatment for the last two months. He had to be put on ventilator support for some time but as of now, his condition is improving. 

He is out of danger but still weak. He also had to undergo dialysis. Solanki was the second Congress candidate for the Rajya Sabha elections. He, however, lost the polls.

Will be in the hospital for another week

Sources in the know said Solanki has now tested negative for COVID-19 but will need to be in the hospital for another week. He still needs ventilator support but only for 4-5 hours in a day, media reports said.

The reports said he is still recovering from the toll the disease took on his body and he is likely to be discharged in a week.

He had also developed an infection in the lungs and also had some problem with his kidney. It is expected that he may not need the ventilator in the coming days. As of now he also undergoes physiotherapy.

Solanki who has been in politics for over three decades has served both at the Centre and the state government. He is a two-time MP and three-time MLA.
