Bengaluru: 300 kids test positive for Covid-19 in 6 days


Bengaluru: Over 300 children have tested positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru in Karnataka in past six days.

As per data released by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for the period from August 5 to 10, a total of 301 children have been found to be infected by coronavirus in past six days. Of these 127 are below the age of 10. Another 174 are in the age group of 10 to 19.

According to health experts, the situation may only worsen if proper case is not taken.

Schools across the country have started reopening amid decline in daily cases of Covid-19. However, there have been concerns over children being sitting ducks for the virus because of their low immunity. Also, experts had warned earlier that children could be worst-hit when the third wave of the pandemic strikes.   Currently, India does not have an approve vaccine for children.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, while exhorting states to ramp up preparedness for the third wave, has placed emphasis on paediatric facilities to be enhanced so that children can be attended to appropriately.

Karnataka govt may announce partial lockdown

In view of the rise in cases, the Karnataka government may impose partial lockdown in the state starting August 16, according to reports quoting sources. However, the government had dismissed the possibility of a complete lockdown. Currently, there are measures in place like night curfew and restrictions on gathering in public
