The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the team for the last two Test matches against England. The last two matches will be played in Motera stadium in Ahmedabad. While the third Test will be played from Feb 24 to 28, the last Test will be played from March 4-8.
The BCCI in a statement said, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee met on Wednesday to pick the squad for the last two Test matches to be played at Ahmedabad against England.”
Indian Test squad
The team chosen by the selectors comprises of Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-captain), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Md. Siraj.
Umesh Yadav will join the team in Ahmedabad and after his fitness assessment will replace Shardul Thakur, who will be released for Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The Committee also picked five net bowlers and two players as standbys. The net bowlers are Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan, Sandeep Warrier, Krishnappa Gowtham and Saurabh Kumar, whereas the standby players are KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar.
Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shahbaz Nadeem and Priyank Panchal have been released for Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Both the teams have won one Test each. While England won the first Test, India scored a massive victory against the visitors in Chennai, with Ravichandran Ashwin shining in both batting and bowling departments. Notably, India defeated England by 324 runs in the second Test.
Both the teams will try their best to defeat the other and create an edge in the four Test match series.
