- AMC’s circular route bus service was operated for just one year, after which its contract was not renewed
Ahmedabad: Within just a year of its launch, the much-publicized circular bus route service, named Bala Hanuman Express and covering religious spots in the Walled City of Ahmedabad, was discontinued. And, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seems to be in no hurry to resume it.
AMC has launched the Bala Hanuman Express in the year 2017. Eight midi-buses were deployed for the service. They plied on the route starting from Lal Darwaja to Gandhi Road to Tilak Baug and back to Lal Darwaja. There was a bus at an interval of 10 minutes. The main objective of starting the bus service on this route was to take people to the Walled City areas.
However, the service was stopped when the contract ended. That was before Covid-19 struck in March 2020. After that, the service was not resumed even during the Unlock phases. Even now, when AMTS buses have been made operational, this bus service continues to remain suspended.
When contacted, an AMTS officer on condition of anonymity said, “The contract for these buses ended before the first wave of Covid-19, so the service was stopped. Now we are thinking of resuming with four buses on this route.”
