2 months after leaving BJP, Babul Supriyo to resign as MP

Now with TMC, Asansol MP Babul Supriyo will submit his resignation to LS Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday

Kolkata: Former Union minister Babul Supriyo, who had resigned from BJP and joined TMC, will now formally resign as a Member of Parliament. He will submit his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday, October 19.

In a tweet, the TMC leader said that he would be meeting Birla at 11 am on Tuesday.

“Sincere Gratitude to Hon’ble Speaker Sir @ombirlakota for granting me his time tmrw at 11am to formally resign as a MP•I will not hold on to the Berth/Perks/Salary of a MP now that I am no longer a part of @BJP4India that I won the seat for• If I have it in me, wil win it again,” Babul Supriyo wrote in the tweet.

Supriyo, the sitting MP from Asansol in West Bengal, had joined BJP in 2014. He initially resigned from BJP in August, citing difference of opinion. His exit had come as a major surprise to everyone, considering that his name was on the list of star campaigners for BJP for the much-important by-elections in West Bengal where Mamata Banerjee would be fighting from Bhabanipur to retain her chair.

He had even announced that he would leave politics.

However, later he joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC).
