A statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar was desecrated on Monday in Sihor in Bhavnagar, media reports said. The reports said someone put a bucket around the bust of the statue and placed empty liquor bottles in it. Police were quoted as saying that the desecration is likely to have happened between midnight and early morning.
The desecration came to light in the morning after which residents approached the Sihor police station. An FIR was registered against some unidentified people. The bust was later cleaned by the locals.
Earlier in February this year, another statue of Ambedkar was desecrated in Rajkot. A man was arrested for putting a garland made of shoes on the statue. The man was caught after CCTV images showed him cycling towards the statue. The incident had led to large scale protests.
