Autorickshaw driver is AAP’s candidate from Saraspur-Rakhiyal ward of Ahmedabad

Aaquib Chhipa, Ahmedabad: Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is contesting the local body elections in Gujarat for the first time, has given a ticket to an autorickshaw driver, Munawwar Hussain Shaikh, from Saraspur-Rakhiyal ward in Ahmedabad. Shaikh had joined AAP in 2015.

While speaking to Gujarat Exclusive Shaikh said that AAP is a team of ordinary people and that is the reason they have given him an opportunity to contest the local body election from one of the wards of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Interestingly AAP was the first party to declare the list of its candidates for the civic polls in Gujarat.

“In the year 2015, I had joined AAP as a party worker by paying a membership fee of Rs 10 in Ahmedabad. Arvind Kejriwal’s clean politics policy and measures undertaken by him to eradicate corruption has attracted me towards the party. We want to implement this clean political ideology of the party in Gujarat as well,” he said.

Shaikh said AAP focuses more on common people’s problems like electricity, drainage problem, water supply, education, etc, and that is why, the party has won back-to-back elections in New Delhi. “We will work for public welfare and public interest in Ahmedabad as well, if people provide us an opportunity,” he added

Transparency in AAP’s selection

On January 3, AAP’s national spokesperson Atishi Marlena while announcing the first list of candidates for the local polls had said, “We believe in clean politics and due to this, we are announcing candidates list much ahead of other parties.”
