A sharpshooter from Mumbai has been nabbed from the Relief Road area of the city. The arrest came after the sharpshooter fired at a team of the Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Crime Branch which had gone to arrest him.
An aide of the sharpshooter is absconding and cops are still searching for him. The ATS and crime branch officials had gone to arrest two sharpshooters who were allegedly staying at the Vinus Hotel in Relief Road.
A tip-off had said that the two were holed up in room 105 of the hotel. A firing had also ensued before the arrest could be made.
Investigations have revealed that the two whom the cops have not named so far is a member of Chhota Shakeel gang in Mumbai. They arrived at the hotel at around 10.10 on Tuesday night.
Media reports said they were in town to kill Gujarat BJP vice-president Gordhan Zadaphia. Zadaphia told the media that he was informed of the same by Minister of State for Home, Pradipsinh Jadeja.
Following the revelations, Zadaphia’s security cover has been increased. The cops have recovered two pistols from the man who was arrested.
