VHP leader Ashok Singhal’s family donates Rs 11 cr for Ram Mandir

A cousin of late Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, who is a Udaipur-based industrialist, has donated Rs 11 crore for building the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. Arvind Singhal has donated the sum in memory of the VHP leader, who led a number of agitations for the Ram Mandir.

Arvind Singhal said that the family decided to donate the sum as the family always felt proud of the contribution of Ashok Singhal for building the Ram Mandir.

Singhal said the whole family was very happy as the process of building the temple has started. He said the family thought it should also contribute its part for the temple. This sum would be a tribute to late Ashok Singhal also, who gave his life for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, he said.

He said it was the wish of the entire Singhal clan to see that the temple should be built and the family was proud that one of the members fought and struggled to see this dream come true.

Highest donation in Rajasthan

The family presented the cheque to Paras Singhvi of Vishwa Hindu Parishad who has been authorised to collect funds for the temple. Singhvi said the family first presented a cheque of Rs 5 crore, but later the family decided to raise the amount to Rs 11 crores and a second cheque of the remaining amount was given to him. This was the highest donation made by a family in Rajasthan.

Arvind Singhal said that he was invited by the temple administration to take part in the puja ceremony for the temple. But as he was unwell, he sent his nephew to Ayodhya where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the temple.

The Singhal family is basically from Allahbad, but settled down in Udaipur for the past 60 years and they are leading manufacturers of pesticides. The family owns the Walcon Group, which is also in the mining business and also in manufacturing electricity meters.
